The Nigerian Senate has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to establish a military base in Kwande Local Government Area to tackle the growing insecurity in the area. Lawmakers said a permanent military presence would help protect residents and allow displaced people to safely return to their communities.
The Senate also asked security agencies to intensify surveillance and carry out coordinated patrols in affected communities. In particular, lawmakers recommended setting up the base along the Ikyurav–Ya–Ukusu corridor to ensure constant security coverage.
During the session, senators observed a minute of silence for victims killed in recent attacks across several communities. The motion was sponsored by Emmanuel Udende, who said the violence has forced many residents to flee their homes.
Lawmakers also directed the National Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to affected families. They further urged telecom companies to install communication masts to help residents make emergency calls during attacks.
