The senator representing Yobe North, Ahmed Lawan, has called for improved funding for Nigeria’s armed forces, stressing that security agencies need adequate resources to fight insecurity. He made the remark during a plenary session, highlighting the challenges faced by soldiers on the frontlines.
Lawan said security personnel cannot effectively combat criminals without proper equipment and logistics. According to him, expecting troops to deliver results without adequate support is unrealistic, noting that soldiers “are not magicians” who can succeed without the necessary tools.
The lawmaker urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government to ensure that funds approved for the military are released on time. He explained that delays in releasing resources could weaken ongoing security operations across the country.
While acknowledging efforts by the government and the National Assembly to support the armed forces, Lawan suggested that bureaucratic delays may be preventing funds from reaching the military quickly. He added that lawmakers must continue to speak up for soldiers who cannot openly demand better support.
