United States President Donald Trump has assured FIFA that Iran is welcome to participate in the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., easing concerns over the country’s involvement amid ongoing conflict. FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the discussion during a meeting with Trump.
Iran is scheduled to play against New Zealand on June 15 in Inglewood, Belgium on June 21, and Egypt on June 26 in Seattle. The tournament runs from June 11 to July 19 across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Concerns had arisen after Iranian officials hinted their team might struggle to attend due to the ongoing war. Infantino said the U.S. President reaffirmed Iran’s participation and emphasized the importance of the World Cup bringing people together.
FIFA continues to monitor the situation closely, but officials stress that the tournament is too large to postpone. Iran’s inclusion is now officially supported, avoiding potential conflicts with World Cup hosting obligations.
