D’Tigress began their campaign at the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament with an impressive victory over Colombia women’s national basketball team. The African champions secured a dominant 70–37 win in their opening match of the competition.
The Nigerian team, coached by Rena Wakama, controlled most of the game and finished the first quarter with an 18–12 lead. Colombia tried to fight back in the second quarter, but Nigeria quickly regained control of the match.
D’Tigress delivered strong performances in the third and fourth quarters to widen the gap and secure a comfortable victory. Their solid defence and quick attacks helped them maintain dominance throughout the game.
Nigeria will continue their qualifying campaign with more tough matches ahead. The team is set to face South Korea women’s national basketball team next, before taking on Philippines women’s national basketball team, France women’s national basketball team and Germany women’s national basketball team.
