The Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), part of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Niger State, urged Governor Umaru Bago not to sign the controversial Hisbah bill into law, warning it could disrupt Christian-Muslim coexistence.
Pastor Daniel Eberendu and Special Apostle Sunday Ojimi stated that the group supports CAN Niger’s rejection of the legislation, appealing to the governor to prevent religious bigotry from undermining decades of peace.
The OAIC noted that the bill could affect freedom of business and worsen the state’s economic challenges, stressing that Governor Bago’s previous visits to churches had promoted unity and inclusiveness.
The organization also questioned the timing of the bill, emphasizing that Christian-Muslim relations have been cordial and urging leaders to avoid actions that could sow discord in the state.
