NLC raises alarm over alleged N20bn ‘emergency’ spending in TCN

The Nigeria Labour Congress has raised concerns over an alleged plan within the Transmission Company of Nigeria to spend nearly ₦20 billion on electricity grid expansion projects.

In a letter sent to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, the union warned that the proposed spending, described as “emergency refurbishment,” could be used to bypass normal procurement rules.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, alleged that some officials may be using the emergency label to hide questionable transactions. He warned that such actions could weaken the financial stability of the power transmission company.

The labour union has therefore called for the suspension of the procurement process and demanded a full investigation and forensic audit to ensure transparency and protect the future of Nigeria’s electricity grid.
