LP crisis: ‘Sanction Nenadi Usman now’ – State Chairmen Forum tells INEC

The crisis within the Labour Party has taken a new turn as the State Chairmen Forum called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to sanction Nenadi Usman and her supporters. The forum said her attempt to organize new party congresses violates the party’s constitution and existing rules.

According to the group, a memo allegedly sent to INEC by a caretaker committee proposing fresh congresses from March 26, 2026 should be rejected. The forum argued that the request did not follow the proper procedures required under the party’s constitution.

The factional National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said only the party’s National Executive Council has the authority to fix dates and guidelines for congresses. He added that executives elected during the December 6, 2025 congress still have a valid four-year mandate.

The forum further insisted that a caretaker committee cannot dissolve elected party structures or replace them with new officials. They urged INEC to disregard the memo and even consider appointing an officer to oversee the party’s activities until the dispute is resolved.
