An early-morning explosion rocked a synagogue in Liège, Belgium, on Monday, causing property damage but no injuries. Authorities condemned the blast as a serious act of anti-Semitism, prompting police to close streets and secure the area for investigation.
Liège Mayor Willy Demeyer called the incident “extremely violent” and contrary to the city’s tradition of respect and tolerance. He urged residents not to import international conflicts into local communities amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Yves Oschinsky, President of the Committee of Jewish Organisations in Belgium, described the explosion as “disturbing, serious, and worrying,” highlighting the rise of anti-Semitic acts in Europe.
Investigators continue to examine the scene, and local authorities are working to ensure the safety of residents while tracing those responsible for the attack.
