Insecurity: Nigeria under siege – Peter Obi

Former Anambra governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Peter Obi, has raised alarm over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, accusing the government of remaining silent while citizens and security personnel lose their lives. He highlighted violent attacks across multiple states, including a recent incident in Ngoshe, Borno State, where over 100 women and children were abducted.

Obi lamented the lack of recognition for fallen soldiers, stressing that many who died defending the country are not given dignified burials or proper national honours. He called for urgent measures to honour their sacrifices and protect citizens from escalating threats.

The ADC leader also cited widespread insecurity in Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Oyo, Ondo, Kebbi, and even the Federal Capital Territory, noting that tens of thousands have been displaced and travellers continue to face abductions and attacks. He warned that the government’s inaction is aggravating the crisis.

Obi urged political leaders to prioritise the safety and welfare of Nigerians over electioneering, stressing the need for a responsive government that restores security, dignity, and hope across the nation. “Nigerians deserve commitment and leadership that puts their safety first,” he said.
