FG set to roll out N100bn solar programme for public institutions

The Federal Government has approved N100 billion for the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative (NPSSI) to provide reliable electricity to public institutions across Nigeria. Engr. Abba Aliyu, Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), revealed the plan during a visit by NJI Administrator Justice Babatunde Adejumo to REA headquarters in Abuja.

The initiative aims to support government institutions facing poor power supply or high energy costs, expanding electricity access through renewable solutions. Aliyu noted that implementation has begun in key agencies, including the DSS, EFCC, ICPC, and National Hospital Abuja, as well as several educational institutions nationwide.

REA will conduct an energy audit at NJI to determine the required solar mini-grid capacity and distribution network. The programme will ensure the institute and other public facilities receive stable power for improved operations.

Justice Adejumo highlighted that reliable electricity is crucial for effective judicial training and research, emphasizing that modern judicial institutions depend on consistent power supply to function efficiently.
