U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States may shift its focus to Cuba once the ongoing tensions with Iran are resolved. Speaking during a reception at the White House, Trump said the Iran situation remains the top priority for now.
Trump explained that his administration wants to “finish” dealing with Iran before turning attention elsewhere. However, he hinted that Cuba could soon become a major focus of U.S. policy and action in the near future.
During the event, Trump also praised U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing his work on issues related to Cuba as impressive. Rubio, who is the son of Cuban immigrants, has long supported stronger policies against the government in Havana.
In recent months, the United States has increased economic pressure on Cuba. Washington has taken steps that reduced oil shipments from Venezuela to the island, worsening Cuba’s already fragile energy supply.
The shortage of fuel has led to serious challenges across the country. Airlines have reduced flights to the island, while frequent power outages and economic difficulties continue to affect daily life for many Cubans.
Observers believe Trump’s latest comments signal a possible shift in U.S. strategy in the Caribbean region. With Iran currently dominating Washington’s attention, analysts say Cuba could become a major foreign policy target once that conflict is addressed.
