Trump Administration Wants To Buy Ukrainian Weapons To Fight Iran – Newsweek

The Trump administration is reportedly considering purchasing Ukrainian-made drones to defend against Iranian attacks in the Middle East. President Donald Trump told Reuters he would accept “any assistance from any country” amid the escalating conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that several countries, including the U.S., have requested Ukraine’s help in protecting against Iranian Shahed drones. Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian specialists and equipment would be made available to ensure regional security.

Ukraine’s low-cost interceptor drones, developed through years of combat against Russia, provide a cheaper alternative to U.S.-made Patriot missile systems. Each Ukrainian drone costs thousands of dollars, compared to millions for a Patriot missile, allowing countries to protect airspace affordably.

The move also preserves Ukraine’s Patriot missile supplies, which are essential for defending against Russia’s relentless missile and drone attacks. Ukrainian assistance will only be provided if it does not weaken Kyiv’s own defenses.

Zelensky has spoken with UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait leaders about possible cooperation, highlighting Ukraine’s growing role in international drone defense. The UAE has intercepted over 1,000 Iranian drones and nearly 200 missiles since the conflict began.

Ukraine has pioneered cost-effective drone killers, offering battle-tested systems that have drawn international attention. Exports of these systems are planned to support allies while continuing Ukraine’s defense against Russia, reinforcing both security and diplomacy.
