Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on March 5 issued a do-not-travel advisory covering several Middle Eastern countries amid what she described as a rapidly deteriorating security situation in the region.
In a post on X, Takaichi said the advisory applies to countries surrounding Iran that are currently under attack.
The warning specifically includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the eastern region of Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The prime minister also announced plans to assist Japanese nationals seeking to leave the affected areas.
According to Takaichi, citizens currently residing in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE who wish to return to Japan will be transported overland to Oman and Saudi Arabia, where chartered flights will carry them to Tokyo.
To support the operation, Tokyo will dispatch an Overseas Emergency Deployment Team to the region to help ensure the safety of Japanese nationals and coordinate evacuation efforts, she said.
Japan joins several other countries working to evacuate their citizens from the Middle East as the Iran war continues to destabilize the region.
