Nyesom Wike has warned the Chairman-elect of Kuje Area Council, Danjuma Shekwolo, to remain accessible to residents once he assumes office. The minister said any chairman who stays away from the people would face serious consequences.
Wike spoke during a “thank you” visit to Kuje following the February 21 Area Council elections. He reminded the chairman-elect that the real test of leadership begins after winning an election. According to him, humility before taking office must continue even after gaining power.
The minister warned that power and money can easily change people if they are not careful. He urged Shekwolo to avoid becoming what he called an “away chairman,” stressing that leaders must stay connected with the communities they represent.
Wike also revealed that he supported Shekwolo during the campaign because he felt the politician lacked strong political backing at the time. He encouraged him to prove his commitment to the people through responsible leadership.
