The Director General of NAFDAC, Dr. Christianah Adeyeye, has raised concerns over the growing impact of alcohol consumption in Nigeria. Speaking during a recent media chat, she linked excessive drinking to rising cases of crime, mental health struggles, and other social challenges affecting communities.
Adeyeye stressed that alcohol abuse contributes to issues such as banditry, self-harm, and unwanted pregnancies. She explained that easy access to cheap alcoholic drinks, especially sachet products, has worsened the problem among young people.
The NAFDAC boss defended the agency’s stance on restricting sachet alcohol sales, saying the move is aimed at protecting public health. According to her, reducing harmful consumption will help improve safety and social stability across the country.
She called on parents, community leaders, and policymakers to support awareness campaigns on responsible behavior. Adeyeye emphasized that tackling alcohol abuse requires collective action to secure a healthier future for Nigerians.
