Nigerian Navy Inaugurates First Marines To Boost Maritime, Land Security

The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated its first group of marines, a historic move aimed at strengthening both maritime and land security. The ceremony marked the formal commissioning of specially trained personnel ready for deployment across strategic locations.

The marines are expected to enhance Nigeria’s capacity to tackle maritime threats, secure coastal areas, and support land operations in collaboration with other security agencies. Officials highlighted that the initiative will boost national defense and safeguard economic assets along Nigeria’s waterways.

Training for the marines included amphibious operations, counter-terrorism, and disaster response, ensuring they are versatile and capable of addressing emerging security challenges. Senior naval officers emphasized that the program reflects the Navy’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s defense forces.

The inauguration is part of broader efforts by the government to strengthen military readiness, enhance coastal surveillance, and ensure the safety of citizens and critical infrastructure across Nigeria’s maritime zones.
