UCL playoffs: Three Galatasaray players under fire after Juventus clash

Former Beşiktaş striker Nihat Kahveci has questioned Galatasaray’s display despite their dramatic 3–2 loss to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League playoff second leg. Speaking on Kontraspor, he said the Turkish side moved on because of their aggregate score, not because of a strong performance on the night.

Galatasaray advanced 7–5 on aggregate, but Kahveci argued they were close to elimination. He claimed the team struggled with rhythm and balance, especially with some players returning from injury. According to him, the overall performance did not match expectations.

Kahveci singled out Leroy Sané for criticism, calling his display disappointing. He also mentioned İlkay Gündoğan and Yunus Akgün, suggesting they failed to make meaningful impact around the tie. He added that Juventus looked sharper and more organized during the clash.

While qualification keeps Galatasaray’s European dream alive, the former forward believes improvements are needed. He warned that stronger opponents in the next round may punish similar displays if the team does not raise its level.
