Pakistan has launched airstrikes on Afghanistan, hitting Kabul and provinces including Kandahar and Paktia, escalating tensions into what Islamabad calls “open war.” The strikes targeted Taliban military infrastructure following recent border clashes.
Afghanistan’s Taliban government said it conducted large-scale operations against Pakistani positions along the Durand Line. Both sides have accused each other of harboring militant groups responsible for cross-border attacks, with civilian casualties reported.
The UN and international community expressed concern, urging both countries to respect international law, protect civilians, and engage in dialogue to prevent further escalation.
Iran and Russia called for negotiations and restraint, offering support to mediate, while analysts warn continued fighting could destabilize South and Central Asia, disrupt trade, and displace civilians.
