The Airline Operators of Nigeria has strongly criticised the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission over allegations of ticket price fixing. The FCCPC had claimed that some domestic airlines manipulated fares during the 2025 Yuletide season.
AON Chairman, Obiorah Okonkwo, described the report as harmful and based on a poor understanding of airline economics. He said pricing in the aviation sector is influenced by operational costs and market forces.
Okonkwo argued that the commission lacks the professional expertise to interpret how airline pricing works. He added that operators respect government institutions but will challenge conclusions they believe are not grounded in industry realities.
The FCCPC had earlier said its review showed patterns of alleged fare manipulation. The disagreement has now sparked fresh debate about regulation, pricing transparency, and the financial health of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
