A civil society group, Kaduna Voices United, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his comments on the arrest and detention of ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai. The coalition accused Atiku of double standards, saying he did not speak up during alleged governance issues under El-Rufai.
Atiku had reportedly described El-Rufai’s detention as troubling and called for transparency, especially after reports of health concerns. However, the group argued that while health matters are important, the serious allegations against the former governor should not be ignored.
According to the coalition, El-Rufai is facing investigations and charges from agencies like the DSS, EFCC and ICPC over alleged corruption, financial misconduct and security-related offences during his time in office. They insisted that the legal process must be allowed to run its course without political interference.
The group stressed that accountability should apply to all public officials equally. It maintained that selective outrage weakens democracy and urged leaders to remain consistent in demanding transparency and justice for everyone.
