Senate calls for removal of CAC Registrar-General over repeated snub of lawmakers

The Senate has called for the removal of the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) over what it described as repeated disregard for invitations from lawmakers. Senators expressed concern that the official failed to appear before the chamber despite several summons to address key issues.

Lawmakers said the refusal to honour invitations undermines the authority of the National Assembly and weakens accountability. They stressed that heads of government agencies must respect oversight functions and cooperate with legislative inquiries.

During plenary, some senators argued that such actions set a bad example for other public officials. They maintained that public institutions must operate with transparency and remain answerable to elected representatives.

The Senate therefore urged the appropriate authorities to take necessary steps, including considering the Registrar-General’s removal. Members insisted that mutual respect between government arms is vital for good governance and effective public service delivery.
