Police confirm killing of five worshippers in Kebbi mosque attack

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that five worshippers were killed in an attack on a mosque in Maiyama Local Government Area. The incident happened on Wednesday night during Taraweeh prayers in Dadin Kowa community.

Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said suspected members of the Lakurawa group carried out the assault. Three other worshippers were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Security operatives, including the police, military and local vigilantes, were deployed to the area after the attackers reportedly fled into nearby bushes. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible.

The police condoled with the families of the victims and assured residents of improved security. The attack is believed to be linked to recent security operations targeting criminal hideouts in the state.
