Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that government forces or their agents were behind the reported attack on Peter Obi in Edo State. Speaking during an interview on Prime Time, he described the incident as an attempted assassination. The claims follow reports that gunmen targeted Obi’s convoy during a visit.
Okonkwo said he was in contact with John Odigie Oyegun, who allegedly provided details of the attack. According to him, the development should not be treated lightly, considering earlier political tensions in the state. He linked the situation to previous warnings issued to opposition figures.
He recalled that a past statement allegedly cautioned Obi against visiting Edo State without clearance, raising concerns about his safety. Okonkwo argued that such remarks had earlier been flagged as dangerous for opposition leaders. The recent incident reportedly happened as supporters gathered to welcome Olumide Akpata.
While authorities are yet to give a full official account, the allegations have sparked fresh political debate. The situation adds to growing concerns about security and rising tensions ahead of political activities in the state. Observers are now calling for a thorough investigation into the claims.
