Tinubu appoints Disu as new IGP, sacks Egbetokun

President Bola Tinubu has removed Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector General of Police. Reports indicate that the decision followed a directive asking him to step down during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Egbetokun has now been replaced by Tunji Disu, who previously served as an Assistant Inspector General of Police. The appointment marks a new leadership phase for the Nigeria Police Force.

Tinubu had initially appointed Egbetokun as the 22nd IGP on June 19, 2023. His confirmation later came from the Nigeria Police Council in October 2023, making his tenure official.

The change in police leadership is expected to shape the direction of security management in the country. Observers believe the development could bring fresh reforms within the force.
