The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has opened talks with the federal government to clarify issues in Executive Order 9 (EO9) and protect the interests of oil and gas workers. The union warned that any misstep in implementing the order could destabilize the sector and impact the broader economy.
PENGASSAN President, Festus Osifo, expressed concern over how EO9 affects revenue management and workers’ salaries, noting that sudden changes could disrupt payments and foreign exchange inflows. He stressed that legal amendments should follow proper legislative processes with stakeholder engagement to ensure stability.
Osifo also criticized recent inflation reports, saying that while figures may show moderation, the reality of rising living costs continues to affect workers’ purchasing power. He urged that economic reforms deliver tangible improvements to citizens’ daily lives, particularly for food, income, and affordability.
Beyond the oil sector, the union called on the government to strengthen security, infrastructure, and electricity supply to support economic growth. Osifo emphasized that sustained gains in pipeline security and crude oil production must continue to ensure steady revenue flow and job protection in the industry.
