Nigerian Army conducts pre-deployment training for troops, warns against indiscipline

The Nigerian Army has commenced a new pre-deployment training for troops at the Kontagora Military Cantonment, aiming to strengthen operational readiness and discipline. The exercise, inaugurated on February 23, 2026, will last four weeks and includes battle drills, survival training, marksmanship, and counter-ambush operations.

AGL Haruna, Commander of the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), emphasised that professional capacity is vital for addressing security challenges and warned that indiscipline would not be tolerated. Trainees were reminded to uphold rules and maintain all facilities and resources provided during the programme.

The training programme is designed to enhance troop effectiveness, focusing on mountain warfare, convoy drills, ground sign awareness, and base camp security. Haruna highlighted that structured schedules and adequate infrastructure have been provided to ensure robust and practical learning.

Support from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, was acknowledged, and instructors were commended for their dedication to troop welfare. The ceremony concluded with cheers and group photographs, marking the official start of the rigorous pre-deployment exercises.
