Ebonyi varsity to withdraw 72 medlab students over poor results, 10 placed on probation

The Department of Medical Laboratory Science at Ebonyi State University has recommended the withdrawal of 72 students over poor academic performance. The Head of Department, Victor Usanga, disclosed that 41 students in 100-level and 31 in 200-level were affected, while 10 others were placed on probation.
According to the report, many of the students recorded CGPAs between 0.00 and 2.44. Eight students in 300-level and two in 400-level were asked to remain on probation due to low academic performance.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG), led by Chika Abraham Nwuhuo, expressed concern over how the withdrawal list was released. The union stressed the need for transparency and proper verification of results before final decisions are made.

While acknowledging the university’s right to maintain standards, the SUG urged fairness and due process. The union advised affected students to stay calm, promising continued engagement with the school management to protect students’ academic rights.
