The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists has intensified advocacy for the proposed Special Seats Bill, urging stakeholders in Adamawa State to support legislation that would increase women’s representation in government. The group says stronger inclusion will improve decision-making and democratic balance.
During a recent engagement, the association explained that the bill is designed to create additional legislative seats specifically reserved for women. According to its leaders, the initiative would help correct long-standing gender gaps in political participation.
NAWOJ stressed that women remain under-represented in many political offices despite their population strength and contributions to society. It called on lawmakers, civil groups, and traditional leaders to back reforms that encourage broader female participation.
The association also appealed to citizens to support policies that promote equality, noting that inclusive governance can lead to more responsive leadership and sustainable development across communities.
