Should DNA Testing Be Mandatory at Birth? A Disturbing Case Raises Questions
A troubling domestic incident in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State has reignited public debate over whether DNA testing should be made compulsory at childbirth.
According to reports, a middle-aged man, whose identity is being withheld, stumbled upon an unexpected message while using his wife’s mobile phone.
The message, sent by an unidentified individual, read: “How are my two kids?” Alarmed by the implication, the man conducted further checks and allegedly uncovered evidence suggesting his wife had maintained intimate relationships with multiple men over time.

Seeking clarity, the man—now over 50 years old—reportedly arranged DNA tests for the couple’s three children. The results, sources say, indicated that none of the children were biologically his.
The family reportedly attempted to pursue the matter through law enforcement channels but were informed that the situation does not constitute a criminal offence under existing laws.
The case has sparked renewed calls for policy discussions around paternity certainty and family law reforms, with some asking whether mandatory DNA testing at birth could prevent similar emotional and legal disputes in the future.
