ActionAid has raised serious concerns over the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, alleging widespread tampering of result sheets. The organization warned that such irregularities could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
According to ActionAid, observers reported multiple instances where result sheets were altered, missing, or mishandled across several polling units. The group urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate the matter urgently.
The NGO emphasized that ensuring transparency and accountability is crucial to prevent disenfranchisement and restore citizens’ trust in the democratic process. ActionAid also called on political parties to reject any form of manipulation or intimidation during elections.
ActionAid concluded that without prompt corrective measures, the credibility of local council polls and future national elections could be seriously compromised. They appealed to all stakeholders to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system.
