Tinubu congratulates winners of FCT, Kano, Rivers elections, hails Wike’s leadership

Abuja, Nigeria – Sunday

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated winners of Saturday’s elections held across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and in parts of Kano and Rivers States, describing their victories as a call to service and a sacred trust bestowed by the people.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President acknowledged the successful conduct of elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the six Area Councils of the FCT, alongside by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II State Constituencies in Rivers State, and Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Constituencies in Kano State.

The FCT polls covered chairmanship and councillorship positions across Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji.

State constituency by-elections were also conducted in Kano Municipal and Ungogo in Kano State, as well as Ahoada East II and Khana II in Rivers State.

According to official results declared so far by INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in Abaji, Kwali, AMAC, and Bwari Area Councils, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada. In the state by-elections, the APC claimed both seats in Rivers State.

President Tinubu urged all elected officials to serve with humility, patriotism, and dedication, emphasizing that the mandate conferred upon them by the electorate must be treated as “a sacred trust.”

The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as remarkable achievements in the territory, noting that these accomplishments have yielded political dividends for the governing APC.

He extended congratulations to the APC national leadership, as well as the party’s leadership and members in Kano and Rivers States, on the electoral victories.

President Tinubu further lauded INEC, security agencies, and voters for ensuring the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections.

He commended the courage and discipline demonstrated by all contestants, stating that democracy thrives on active participation and healthy competition.

Affirming that the successful conduct of the polls strengthens Nigeria’s democratic culture and institutions, the President called on INEC to continue enhancing its processes to deliver even more exemplary electoral outcomes.

While reports indicated low voter turnout in some areas and opposition parties raised concerns over alleged irregularities, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a special legal team to address petitions arising from the FCT Area Council elections.
