INEC Declares Maikalangu Winner of AMAC Chairmanship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), following the conclusion of the council’s chairmanship election.


Announcing the results at the AMAC Collation Centre, the Collation Officer, Andrew Abue, confirmed that Mr. Maikalangu, the incumbent chairman, secured 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast to emerge winner of the poll.


The African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 3,398 votes.
According to INEC, a total of 65,197 votes were cast in the election, with 2,336 rejected ballots.

The number of accredited voters stood at 65,676, out of 837,338 registered voters across AMAC.
Declaring the result, Mr. Abue stated:

“That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

INEC also released the detailed scores of candidates representing the 16 political parties that participated in the election:

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) – 1,111 votes


Allied Peoples Movement (APM) – 122 votes


Action Peoples Party (APP) – 32 votes


Boot Party (BP) – 43 votes


New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) – 1,694 votes


National Rescue Movement (NRM) – 73 votes


Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – 3,398 votes

Parties Commend INEC, Describe Process as Transparent


Reacting to the outcome, APC Collation Agent Gambo Babale commended INEC for what he described as a credible and transparent process, citing smooth operations across polling units, ward collation centres, and the AMAC Area Council Collation Centre.


He noted that the PDP’s victory in two ward councillorship positions—Karu and Karishi—demonstrated the openness of the electoral process.


Mr. Babale congratulated Mr. Maikalangu on his re-election, expressing confidence that the renewed mandate would translate into sustained delivery of democratic dividends to AMAC residents.

He added that the outcome signals positive prospects for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.


Similarly, YPP Ward Collation Agent Abdullahi Ibrahim described the collation process as transparent and extended his congratulations to the winner.


INEC confirmed that result sheets were duly signed by party agents representing the ADC, APC, APGA, YPP, and NNPP at the collation centre.
