The Borno State Police Command has distributed ₦20.1 million to families of officers who died while serving the country. The payment was made under the Group Life Insurance Scheme during a presentation ceremony for nine beneficiaries. Officials said the support is meant to help the families handle welfare needs such as schooling, medical care, and daily expenses.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, DCP Ibrahim Sumaila delivered a message from Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun, assuring that the Force remains committed to caring for personnel and their loved ones. He described the insurance scheme as proof that sacrifices made by officers are recognized and valued. He also urged recipients to use the funds wisely.
A spokesperson for the beneficiaries, Modu Ishaku, expressed appreciation for the assistance and promised it would be used responsibly. He noted that the financial relief would ease the burden on families who lost their breadwinners in service. Observers say such support can help maintain morale among serving officers.
This payout follows a similar disbursement earlier in 2026 when another set of families received about ₦18.38 million. Authorities in Borno State say the programme remains an important welfare policy for police households nationwide. Officials added that continued support shows the government’s commitment to honoring fallen officers.
