A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, has criticised Bola Tinubu over the newly amended Electoral Act, claiming the president’s political ideology favors taking power rather than winning it through persuasion. He made the remarks during a televised interview while reacting to recent electoral reforms.
Adebayo argued that politicians who focus on campaigning and voter engagement may feel discouraged by the new law. He described the amendment as creating doubt among voters, insisting it could weaken public confidence in elections if not properly managed.
The National Assembly recently approved electronic transmission of results but allowed manual collation as a backup, a move that has sparked debate nationwide. Critics say the dual system could be misused, while supporters argue it provides safeguards against technical failures.
Adebayo maintained that his party would still challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress politically despite the changes. He added that opposition groups must now work harder to reassure citizens that their votes will count in future elections.
