The Department of State Services has scheduled February 25 for the arraignment of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El‑Rufai, over alleged cybercrime and national security violations. The case follows a three-count charge reportedly filed after comments he made during a televised interview.
According to court documents, the former governor allegedly admitted during a programme on Arise TV that he and associates intercepted the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Authorities say such actions violate provisions of Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act.
Prosecutors also claim he acknowledged knowing someone involved in the alleged interception but failed to report the individual to security agencies. A separate count accuses him and unnamed collaborators of using technical systems capable of threatening public safety and causing fear among citizens.
Security officials insist the charges stem from statements he made publicly and say the law must take its course. The upcoming court session is expected to determine the next legal steps as the high-profile case draws nationwide attention.
