The International Human Rights Commission – Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT) has called for urgent reforms to correctional systems, urging authorities to prioritize rehabilitation instead of punishment alone. The group said prisons should help offenders rebuild their lives and return to society as responsible citizens. It stressed that focusing only on penalties does not reduce crime long-term.
According to the organization, modern correctional policies should include education, counseling, and vocational training. These programs, it noted, can help inmates develop skills and change their behavior. The commission added that such steps lower repeat offenses and improve public safety.
IHRC-RFT also encouraged governments to invest more in prison welfare and staff training. It explained that well-trained officers and humane facilities play a key role in successful rehabilitation. Without these improvements, the justice system may struggle to achieve lasting results.
The group concluded that justice should balance accountability with reform. It urged policymakers to adopt systems that correct mistakes while giving offenders a real chance to start anew. Observers say the call adds to global discussions on humane and effective criminal justice reforms.
