Lagos APC defends Tinubu’s assent to Electoral Act 2026

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has defended President Bola Tinubu’s assent to the Electoral Act 2026, calling the backlash politically motivated and disconnected from national interest. The party insisted the President acted prudently, following constitutional procedures and thorough legislative debates.

According to Lagos APC spokesperson Mogaji Seye Oladejo, opposition criticism over provisions like real-time transmission of election results is based on misleading narratives. The party noted that similar systems in other democracies face technological, legal, and cybersecurity challenges, underscoring the need for careful reform.

The party stressed that electoral reform is not the exclusive domain of any political bloc and warned against allowing political convenience or social media pressure to shape national policy. Lagos APC said Tinubu’s assent reflects thoughtful, sustainable, and legally defensible governance rather than reactionary measures.

Lagos APC further called for public discourse grounded in facts, urging Nigerians to prioritize long-term electoral integrity over sensationalism. The party emphasized that strengthening democratic institutions should not compromise stability amid infrastructural and legal challenges.
