Electoral Act: Tinubu lied about election glitches – Former IPAC chair, Ameh

Former Inter-Party Advisory Council chairman Peter Ameh has accused President Bola Tinubu of misleading Nigerians about alleged technical problems in the country’s elections. He made the remark during an interview on Trust TV, insisting that the electoral system is functioning properly.

Ameh spoke while reacting to the president’s signing of the revised Electoral Act, saying there was no evidence that infrastructure challenges justified concerns about electronic processes. He argued that election operations have worked effectively in past polls without major complaints from stakeholders.

He also stressed that the Independent National Electoral Commission is constitutionally independent and capable of handling elections. According to him, the commission has successfully transmitted results in previous contests and has not publicly declared any systemic failure.

The former IPAC boss further claimed political motives may be behind the narrative about glitches, suggesting it reflects fear of transparent voting outcomes. His comments have added to the growing debate over electoral reforms and public trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.
