The Igwe of Ezema Olo in Enugu, Ambassador Dr. Lawrence Agubuzu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. He suggested returning Kanu to Kenya or the United Kingdom if his presence in Nigeria is uncomfortable.
Kanu was arrested in Kenya during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and returned to Nigeria, where he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Federal High Court. He is currently held at the maximum security prison in Sokoto.
Agubuzu warned that Kanu’s imprisonment is increasing frustration among young people in the Southeast. He spoke during the 2026 National Traditional and Religious Leaders Summit in Abuja, urging the government to address the situation.
The monarch also contrasted Kanu’s treatment with the planned honour for Sunday Igboho by the Ooni of Ife. He stressed that resolving Kanu’s case is essential for national unity and moving the country forward.
