Insurgents claim 176 abducted in Kwara, release video

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have released a video showing dozens of women and children they claim to have abducted from Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State. In the clip, two of the captives said the total number of abductees is 176, contradicting government reports that the figure is under 30.

The one-minute, 17-second video, shared via Sahara Reporters, shows the women and minors gathered while an unidentified man interrogates them. The captives confirmed they were taken from Woro in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State. The insurgents accused the Federal Government of misleading the public about the scale of the abduction.

As of now, neither the Federal Government nor the Kwara State Government has officially confirmed the authenticity of the video or the reported numbers. Security agencies have yet to release statements addressing the claims, raising concerns about public safety and government transparency.

Kwara State, located in North-Central Nigeria, is not traditionally considered a Boko Haram hotspot compared to North-Eastern states. The incident has prompted fears about the possible expansion of insurgent activities and the vulnerability of communities in the region.
