2027: Adopt real-time results upload or face protests – RNA tells Senate

The Rescue Nigeria Alliance (RNA) has warned the Senate to restore compulsory real-time electronic transmission of election results ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group said removing the provision from the amended Electoral Act could weaken transparency and damage public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system. According to the organisation, transparent elections are vital for national stability.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, RNA leaders, including National Chairman Dr. Basil Nwolisa and National Secretary Akor Christian Oche, criticised the National Assembly’s decision. They described the rejection of mandatory electronic result upload as a serious setback for democracy. The Senate had reviewed 155 clauses of the amended Electoral Act before making the controversial decision.

The group revealed that it has been staging protests since February 9, 2026. It also announced plans to expand peaceful demonstrations from February 16, 2026, around the National Assembly and other important locations across the country. RNA insisted that citizens must defend the integrity of the electoral process through lawful civic engagement.

RNA stressed that failing to restore real-time electronic transmission could trigger sustained nationwide protests. The organisation argued that transparency in election results is necessary to avoid disputes and strengthen confidence in future elections, especially as 2027 draws closer.
