American model and reality TV personality Kimora Lee Simmons is reportedly involved in a legal dispute over a luxury mansion in Beverly Hills valued at about $25 million. The property is said to have been purchased in 2017 by her estranged husband, Tim Leissner, using funds allegedly misappropriated from Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, 1MDB.
According to court documents cited in reports, the seven-bedroom estate was later sold to billionaire real estate investors. However, filings claim Simmons has continued to live in the property since late 2020 without paying rent. It was also reported that parts of her reality television series were filmed inside the mansion.
Leissner, a former banker, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and money-laundering charges connected to the 1MDB scandal. He recently surrendered to authorities to begin serving a two-year prison sentence. The wider scandal has drawn global attention due to the massive sums of money involved.
A court hearing is expected later this month to determine the rightful ownership and possession of the property. The case has sparked mixed reactions online, with some viewing it strictly as a legal matter while others see it as part of the broader controversy surrounding the source of the home’s purchase funds.
