Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council and dismissed all Special Advisers. The announcement was made in a government statement in Port Harcourt on Thursday, February 12. The governor also appointed a new Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, replacing Nelson Chukwudi. No reason was given for the previous Chief Press Secretary’s removal.
Governor Fubara directed all commissioners and special advisers to hand over their duties to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their ministries immediately. The statement thanked outgoing officials for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
The dissolution of the cabinet is part of a broader administrative reshuffle, and the governor is expected to submit a new list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, for screening and approval.
Officials and observers note that this move could signal changes in policy direction or governance priorities in the state. Residents are awaiting the announcement of new appointees who will fill the vacated positions.
