We’ll take legal action – El-Rufai’s lawyers threaten EFCC over attempted arrest

Lawyers representing Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have warned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against attempting to arrest their client. The legal team described any such action as unlawful and vowed to take immediate legal steps to protect the governor’s rights.

The threat follows reports that EFCC operatives were planning to summon or detain El-Rufai over allegations related to financial irregularities during his tenure in office. The governor’s lawyers emphasized that proper legal procedures must be followed and that any attempt to bypass the law would be contested in court.

In a statement, the legal team said, “Any unlawful action to arrest or harass Governor El-Rufai will be met with the full force of the law. We will not hesitate to seek injunctions and pursue legal remedies to protect his rights and dignity.” They stressed the importance of due process in handling high-profile public figures.

Observers note that the standoff underscores ongoing tensions between EFCC and certain state officials, highlighting concerns about procedure, accountability, and the rule of law. Legal experts say the case could set a precedent regarding how investigative agencies approach sitting or former public office holders.
