Over 80 shops destroyed in Kano market fire

A devastating fire has destroyed more than 80 shops at a popular market in Kano State, leaving many traders counting heavy losses. The blaze reportedly started in the early hours and quickly spread across several sections of the market before emergency responders arrived. Goods worth millions of naira were said to have been consumed by the flames.

Eyewitnesses said the fire moved rapidly due to the close arrangement of shops and the presence of highly flammable materials. Shop owners struggled to salvage their goods as thick smoke covered the area. Many traders expressed shock and sadness over the sudden destruction of their means of livelihood.

Officials of the state fire service later arrived at the scene and worked to contain the inferno, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the market. Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the fire, but investigations are expected to determine whether it was triggered by an electrical fault or other factors.

The incident has once again raised concerns about fire safety measures in major markets across the country. Affected traders are calling on the government and well-meaning individuals for support as they attempt to recover from the disaster.
