Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has shared his thoughts on where Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone should position Ademola Lookman. The Nigerian forward recently completed a move from Italian side Atalanta to Atletico during the January transfer window, adding more firepower to Simeone’s squad.
Lookman is known for his versatility, as he can operate on the wings or across different attacking roles. However, Peseiro believes the player is most effective when deployed centrally. According to him, while Lookman can trouble defenders from wide areas with diagonal runs and pace, his true strength comes when he plays as a striker.
In an interview with Spanish outlet Marca, Peseiro explained that Lookman becomes more dangerous in inside channels where he can shoot, dribble past defenders, or provide assists. He pointed out that the forward’s sharp footwork and ability to make quick decisions in tight spaces make him a serious threat in front of goal.
Peseiro also noted that Lookman has the physical strength to trouble top defenders, referencing his impressive debut performance. With big matches ahead, including tough tests against teams like Barcelona, many fans will be eager to see whether Simeone takes the advice and gives the Nigerian star a central attacking role.
