Tems Becomes First African Female Artist To Have 7 Entries On Billboard Hot 100

Grammy-winning Nigerian star Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has set a new milestone by becoming the first African female artist to achieve seven entries on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

She reached the landmark after her track “What You Need” unexpectedly debuted at No. 93 on this week’s chart, bringing her total appearances to seven.

With this achievement, Tems now shares the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries by an African act alongside fellow Nigerian Burna Boy and South African rock band Seether, who also have seven each.

Back in 2022, Tems made history as the first African artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 through her collaboration with Future and Drake on “Wait For U.”

She is expected to break the current tie soon, as J. Cole’s upcoming track “Bunce Road Blues,” featuring Tems and Future, is projected to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 next week.
