Two men dragged to court for stealing bag of rice in Lagos

Two young men have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State, over the alleged theft of a bag of rice. The suspects, identified as Agbo Agbonopo, 20, and Salisu Abubakar, 25, were brought to court by the police on Monday to answer charges related to stealing.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on February 2, 2026, around 2:30 pm in the Gbaji area near the Seme Border. The prosecutor told the court that the two men allegedly worked together to take a bag of rice valued at ₦58,000, said to belong to one Francis Adeyemi.

Police further informed the court that the suspects were arrested while allegedly making plans to sell the stolen item. After their arrest, they were handed over to law enforcement officers for investigation, which led to their arraignment in court.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted both defendants bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in the same amount. He ruled that one of the sureties must be a recognised community leader and adjourned the case to March 4, 2026, for further mention.
