Tears For Enebi: Miami Beach Film Festival Selects Nigerian Film For Screening

The Nigerian short film Tears for Enebi has been selected for screening at the upcoming Miami Beach Film Festival, marking a major international recognition for the 16-minute film. The story, based on the real-life experiences of Enebi Annah, a beauty queen and poet, explores her life being shattered when a trusted mentor and confidant commits a heinous crime. In a shocking twist, the perpetrator also heads Africa’s leading anti-rape organization.

Since its premiere, Tears for Enebi has been featured at nearly 20 international film festivals. It won two awards at the Independent Short Awards in Los Angeles, including Best Women Short Film and Best Actress for Rahmah Zakareeyah’s compelling performance. The film has also appeared at The Film Collective Film Festival in Virginia, among other events, and will now be showcased at Miami Beach on May 5th, 2026, joining a select few African short films at the prestigious event.

Produced by Godspower Oshodin with multiple media partners, the film is co-directed by Seun Manuel Faleye, Peter Atigogo, and Sunki, and stars Foluke Daramola, Rahmah Zakareeyah, Seunmanuel Faleye, Kika Oshodin, and Aitaya Hansley. The project is part of a series of advocacy-focused stories by Oshodin, which also include upcoming films like With Last Debt and I Don’t Blame You, currently screening at festivals worldwide.

Lead actress Rahmah Zakareeyah said portraying Enebi was a deeply meaningful experience, highlighting the importance of societal awareness around rape and abuse. Veteran actress Foluke Daramola added that participating in the film was a natural choice due to her long-standing commitment to advocating against sexual violence through her organization, Passion Against Rape and Abuse in Africa (PARA Africa). Together, the cast and crew hope the film inspires dialogue and action on these urgent issues.
