The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully made safe an improvised explosive device (IED) reportedly planted by suspected terrorists along the Danjibga–Kunchin Kalgo road in Tsafe Local Government Area. The operation helped prevent a possible attack on commuters and residents using the route.
According to the police, the explosive was discovered during a coordinated security operation on Thursday. The joint team included officers from the Police EOD-CBRN Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the military’s explosive disposal unit, supported by other security agencies working together to secure the area.
In a statement released on Friday, the police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed that the device was safely neutralised at about 8:00 a.m. He explained that the pressure-plate IED was professionally handled using approved safety procedures, and its parts were recovered for forensic investigation.
Following a detailed search and technical assessment of the surroundings, the police assured the public that the road is now safe for movement. The command also called on residents to stay alert and continue sharing useful information with security agencies to support efforts aimed at improving safety across Zamfara State.
